Former President Mahama should Vacate Military Land – Defense Minister

The Minister of Defense and also Member of Parliament for Bimbila Constituency, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul has advised former President John Dramani Mahama to vacate a land he occupies at Burma Camp in order to be safe also set a precedent for others to follow suit.

According to the Defense Minister, some portions of the Burma Camp land have been occupied by civilians making them live close to military installations which is not safe for their interest and the interest of the country at large.

He filed this advice today 7th December, 2017 during the Meet the Press Counter organized by the Ministry of Information chaired by Hon. Mustapha Hamid. The Defense Minister was flanked military officers in high command.

He stated that it is the duty of Government to acquire land for the Armed Forces since the military cannot acquire it themselves. “I am not happy about how Armed Forces lands are handled” he stated.

He alleged further that top politicians have decided to sell Ghana Armed Forces land to colleagues. He said, 300 acres of land belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp, a military zone designated for the military has been sold to individuals by politicians who are suppose to care and protect lands belong to Ghana Armed Forces.

He mentioned military lands in Kumasi, Tarkoradi, among others places that have been taken over by politicians and other civilians.

He explained that some politicians wrote to the Ghana Armed Forces compelling the military to release lands in their possession to their owners if they cannot develop such lands, only to find out that such lands are sold and bought by same politicians. “I am not satisfied with the sale of Burma Camp lands”, he said.

He however visited his anger on Former President John Dramani Mahama who is among persons occupying military lands at Burma Camp.

He said, he as former Commander in Chief of the Army who should have protected the sale of the military land and not for him to occupy it.

He alleged further that, the land commission has connived with some persons to sell lands at Burma Camp.
